Christmas Shoe Box Appeal: Help the Homeless

This year at Christmas, we're supporting people close to home. We are collecting shoeboxes of small gifts and necessities to help people who don't have a home have a slightly better time this Christmas.

At NurSoc, we support the Southampton Hospital Charity. This has now been extended to include The New Help the Homeless Southampton Charity, so we will be supporting both charities year round through various fundraisers.

This charity is an incredibly small charity which wouldn't be around if it weren't for a handful of people who care enough to give food to the people who need it and collect donations. Although small, the work they do is extremely important and have actually kept people going for long enough to enable them to find some safe, warm accommodation. This handful of people, I think, have changed lives.

The list of items has been taken straight from the charity however these are purely suggestions. The suggestion of including cigarette papers and tips has been questioned, however it's important to note that many of the homeless people pick up used cigarettes and cigarette butts off the floor. Cigarettes are often the only bit of relief they have from the stress of living on the streets, and it's not up to us to question or judge this. Honestly, anything at all that's put into a shoebox and given out to them will be gratefully received.

Let's pull together and support people close to home. It could be you one day.

Why not club together with some mates or your housemates and make one together?

We'll start arranging dates and times to collect the boxes from mid-November, which will likely be from the common room in Nightingale Building.

Thankyou so much for your help in this, it's an amazing cause to support and will make a difference this Christmas ❤️
