Brexit... Should I even utter the words on in International Page. Well I have been thinking about it and not many people actually know what is going on (myself included).
So as it says on the tin British Exit (from the European Union)
But what does this mean for International Students and particularly Nursing Students.
Well first of as An Irishman according to Gov.uk Irish nationals will not be required to apply for a ‘Settled Status’ as we will have ‘Indefinite leave to remain’.
Already you can see why people just zone out. We nearly need a Brexit Dictionary
‘Settled Status’ this is given to those apply for the EU Settlement Scheme to continue living in the UK after 30 June 2021. If your application is successful, you’ll get either settled or pre-settled status.
‘Indefinite leave to remain’ Indefinite leave to remain is a type of immigration status you’ll usually have applied for. You’ll usually have a stamp in your passport or a letter from the Home Office.
Who needs to apply for ‘Settled Status’.
If you’re an EU citizen or a family member of an EU citizen, you’ll usually need to apply if you want to stay in the UK after 30 June 2021. This includes if you’re married to a British citizen.
Who does not need to apply.
· if you’re an Irish citizen
· if you have indefinite leave to enter the UK
· if you have indefinite leave to remain in the UK
Your family members from outside either the UK or Ireland will still need to apply even if you do not need to.
If you have settled status, you can:
stay in the UK for as long as you like
apply for British citizenship, if you’re eligible
work in the UK
use the NHS
enrol in education or continue studying
access public funds such as benefits and pensions, if you’re eligible for them
travel in and out of the UK
(Gov.uk 2018)
All I can really say is keep yourself up to date.
29/March/2019 is the date when Brexit happens, all I say is wait it out because nobody really knows what will happen.
Part of me would love to ask what would have happened had it all be done again? But let’s not make too much of a deal about it! Honestly, who really knows! .
I leave you with some reading and a few videos.
